Playback choppy - how to troubleshoot?

Hi All,

I have recently started experiencing playback issues on my RasPlex installation.

Environment:

Plex Server 0.9.10.1 on Ubuntu 14.04.

RPI model B

Rasplex 0.4.1.

Connection over WiFi

All was running fine, with no changes to Rasplex in a couple of months (since 0.4.1 release).  Over the last few days, video is stuttering, to the point of being unwatchable.  Sometimes, it pauses for 20 minutes, then plays 30 seconds and pauses again.

The server seems to be OK, no problems with CPU / RAM / etc.  The other devices (Web browser and IOS clients) are playing fine on same WiFi.

I've tried checking different shows (eg, ones I know played just fine last week) and get the same issue.

What's the best way to work out what's causing the stuttering?  Since nothing has changed on the Pi side, I doubt that it's a bug or anything.. I personally expect that it's the stupid WiFi router, but then.. nothing's changed there either! :)

Appreciate any help / ideas!

Cheers,

Sam

Never mind - found a long network lead, hooked up and all is working perfectly.  Guess that the combination of the minimal hardware resources of the RPi and the poor network connection was the issue.

Off to get a new WiFi router - I've had plenty of problems with these $%^% Fritz Box devices in the past! ;)

I would suggest a power line adapter. You can get away with a cheapish 10/100 Mbps because the pi is only 100Mbps.

Don't change your router, use a Powerline adapter as suggested, a pair of TP Link ones are less than half the price of a decent new router, they work much better than wifi, which is known to present problems with playback on Rasplex.

Thanks for the suggestions Lanks and NedtheNerd- will check that out.
