... rasplex ... still ... stuttering ...

hello,

as some will recall i have been having problems with video stuttering and network drop-outs for some time. vacation has given me the time to think, and this weekend has given me the time to test.

start with the good news, the network drop-outs problem was solved with a new power supply. i have also moved to a rpi b+ and continue to have good results.

video is playback is better, but still stutters and freezes. :frowning:

i have changed almost every component of my system (rpi, sd card, power supply, network cables, and switch) and i have spent this day trying different configurations between the plex server, nas, and rpi to no avail.

i am considering a new switch, yet i wonder if the problem is not software. before rasplex 0.4.0rc4 i did not have the stuttering ; i had found the equilibrium between bitrate of video files and overclocking that allowed me to watch all my movies.

i believe that rc4 introduced something new (related to fmpeg) and i think it is causing me problems. for one thing, i can no longer see the cache size on the plex info screen to check if it is being overloaded.

has anyone found a way to examine the cache in rc4 or rc5 ? could one of the devs tell me more about the new streaming process ?

i suppose it could be the network … but everything is wired, and even with the information moving from nas to plex server to rpi i would hope that a wired gigabyte network could handle the load.

or maybe not, in desperation i am looking at a new switch that may be more powerful and will let me experiment with vlans and prioritizing network flows. but this seems etreme.

thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
