I have seen this topic discussed several times, but it seems like it was closed out as fixed in a previous version, etc. but I still seem to be having the issue. Whenever I watch a movie, especially an MKV file the video will stutter badly. It plays for a second, stops, plays for a second, stops, etc. With MKV files in particular it does that every second or two. With other files, it might play without problems or it might stop after 30 minutes and pause and buffer.
I’ve tried disabling FFMPEG AVIO, I’ve tried disabling DTS, AC3, etc. but nothing seems to resolve the issue. I’ve tried with overclocking and without.
There shouldn’t be any network congestion, but I’ve tried wired and wireless.
If I put the display on screen I am not totally sure what all the numbers mean, but I see most of the percentage numbers eventually drop to zero as the video stops playing, which I assume means the buffers are filling and depleting before they can be filled back up.
Not really sure what else to do… it ran fine back on version 0.6. It seems to have started after I tried to upgrade to 0.7 and eventually 1.0. Should I downgrade? I thought I read on another thread that 1.0.1 fixed this?
I’m about ready to just go buy a Fire Stick. I bought one for my daughter and it plays perfectly… but I prefer the user interface on the raspberry, and I like using my cell phone as a remote…
If I change ‘Secure Connections’ from Preferred to Disabled then it stops working completely. The rasplex can no longer connect. I tried restarting the rasplex client afterwards, but still only showing ‘search’ Is there something on the client side I need to change as well?

That’s very strange. I use PMS myself with secure connections disabled, as needed since there are three RPi1 units accessing my media collection (in addition to some other clients). This usage has not given me any problems at all.

No, the client should adapt automatically, at least after a restart. But I do think you must also restart the PMS server after such changes of its configuration. Perhaps you did, but you didn’t mention it in your post…
I think I figured it out. This time I changed the secure setting to ‘Disabled’ then when I couldn’t connect from Rasplex I went into preferences and signed out on the device from plex.tv and signed back in again and when I did it gave me a new pin and asked me to relink the device. When I did it came right up but without the lock icons.
Success!
Now I guess we’ll see if my files perform well again. I suspect they will because it all worked fine till version 7 or so which I think is when encryption was first available.
@zheron:
I’m glad you got it to work, and I’m sure the files will perform as well as they did before your troubles started.
The critical update was “PMS 0.9.12.03” which added secure connection usage to the server, and the negotiation to use https or not is something that happens separately from playback, so once the decision is made to not use secure connections, the traffic should work exactly as with the older server versions.
(Apart from any other server improvements of course.)
