Playback Error - Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

Player Version#: Playstation 4 Version 2.01

Been having this issue randomly for a long time, but finally decided to send in a request for help with it. This error appears on both Playstation 4 as well as the Android app when casing to a television. This issue has existed through many versions of the Plex Server, but I am unsure how to fix it.

I did immediately go and download the log files, so please let me know what snippets of which log files are required and I will add them here.

I feel your pain, I have been having the exact same issue: Plex keeps crashing on Playstation 4 App "Playback Error"

Hopefully, it is resolved soon through an update or maybe a resolution.

I was having the same issue on Apple TV. I moved my temporary transcoding folder to an SSD. At that time, my problem went away. I can only suspect that there were permissions issues with the default directory. Try creating a new one (search the knowledge base, but there is a place in the server settings to put a new directory).

I’m not sure which “user” needs access to the transcoding directory, but if you do, you could give it access to the default directory. Of course, it may already have access to the default transcode folder and only need modified permissions. Like I said, I wanted mine moved anyways.

Do you, by any chance, use external subtitles in the media where the transcoder fails?

Some have been experiencing transcoder failures when external subs are at play: "Conversion failed. The transcoder failed to start up." message when trying to play videos with external subtitles

The error message though is different
