I begin having problems with external subtitles a few days ago and after investigating, I conclude that the problems seems to be specifically with external subs when the shared folder containing the media is in added to the library by it’s network address (\nas\folder\etc.) instead of a mapped driver letter, and the full path to the subtitle file had spaces on it.

I have a similar problem - overnight all new movies, could not be play, unless I turn off subtext.
Moving the film to a local harddisk on the server (away from my QNap nas), there was no problem.
Currently I have tried:
Removed some titles and then it worked again and pushed new movies in again and the problem came back
Removing Plex from the server completly (deleted regedit stuff too), reinstalled Plex and indexed all movies all over - did not work
After re-index/Reinstall, now everything is broken - non of the movie can playback with subtexy
Im currently trieng to move 2TB of film to another NAS box, to see if that will change anything
It seems there is a problem with SRT files. The film CAN be played back without subtext (turned off). But there is no problem, if I move it til a local disc on the server…
Having 30TB tv shows and movies can be a big job to move, so that is my last resort. But Im looking af killing off my QNap for RackStation RS1219+ - just to see, if that wil make any diff.
But hearing others have a similar problem… maybe there is an bug in Plex???
