[Transcode] Error configuring transcoder: TPU: Failed to download sub-stream to temporary file

Apparently the issue was already happening in previous versions:
I tried with the following:
1.20.2.3402
1.20.1.3252

So, I managed to find a workaround in Version 1.20.3.3437

The issue is related to the files being located on a network share.
I copied the same movie to the local storage of the server and added this folder to a new library in Plex.
When selecting the movie from that library no more errors and streaming is working with the external srt file.
@Maico053 can you try this as well?

Same here,

I downgraded 2 versions and readded al the ā€œnewā€ subtitle fils and it works again

@Maico053 are you using network shares ?

I’ve been having the same issues and am about to try rolling back to a older verison of plex.

I can confirm the issues still happens even though I am on the local storage of the server.

@6illes yes i do use network shares

@Maico053 how is your drive / library mounted in plex? Via UNC path or via a network share which is mounted in Windows?
I just noticed that if I create a new library which is mounted as follows it works too:
G:\test\xxx
As soon as I change the library to UNC path it fails.
\SYNOLOGY24\xxx

@wedgelite rolling back won’t fix the issue, I’ve tried this already as stated above, unless you really want to go even further back. But I’m unsure what it will do to your library when using the new plex movie agent.

My solution that worked for me.

The transcoder folder cannot be on the same drive where all media are.

I basically changed the location of the transcoder folder to a different drive

Deleted all old external subtitles, either redownloaded new subs or got them from opensubtitles via plex

And presto it worked for me.

@wedgelite what do you mean with the ā€˜ā€˜transcoder folder’’?

The temporary Transcoder directory. You can set which drive you want the transcode folder to be. You can find this under Settings —> Transcoder

@wedgelite hmm I didn’t knew this. It’s blank for me, where does it default to ?

I’m not sure, I assume it defaults to the drive where Plex is installed on?

I think it’s somewhere here, not sure tho. I’ll try to change it.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\

EDIT: After changing the directory it still doesn’t work for me.

Just remove and reinstall Version 1.20.1.3252.
Remove non working subs cleans and rescan libery. Than readd subs, every new serie/movie works ar once.

I wil just wait till plex fixes it

Just adding another one - I’m having this same issue. Videos and subtitles on a network share.
Disable the subtitle and it works fine, though not having subtitles is a show stopper.

Yep they hosed it up. Read in another post they’ll patch it in a couple weeks.

Where did you read this beautiful news? Not wanna remove, reinstall, etc.
