Playback Error..Linux Mint..Here is what I have tried

Server Version#: Version 4.125.1
Player Version#: can’t seem to find it

Error:
An error occurred trying to play “The Croods”. Error code: s1001 (Network)

I have verified permission on the folder.
I have reinstalled the Server.
I have also deleted the media and reinstalled one movie.
I have tried ethernet and wireless.
I can play the movie directly from my PC outside of Plex
I can stream shows from Plex.
I just can’t playback the media I install locally or otherwise.

What logs would help you, to help me diagnose this thorn in my side?

Feel free to be specific…I am new to Linux and Plex so…there’s that.

<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Linux Mint is not supported as it’s not a reliable server distro to use.

  1. Yes, it is Debian/Ubuntu based
  2. No, it’s not the same

Mint has proven itself to fail at random under the load of running PMS on it.

Yes, Mint is a good workstation distro but it can’t handle the load.

I’ve spent hours helping folks diagnose problems only to verify Mint can’t work.
It’s for this reason, we cannot support Mint.

It’s very likely why you’re having the problems you are.

Recommendation is to use Ubuntu or Debian.

Thank you Chuck…not the answer I was hoping for but I appreciate the honesty. Forgive my ignorance but can I use Debian or Ubuntu in VirtualBox running PMS? I am guessing that is a no but worth the ask since Mint is an easier transition from Windows.

Ubuntu is the MUCH easier transition to Linux.
It’s very Windows-friendly compared to Debian (more for the purists  )

Running PMS in a VirtualBox-based Linux VM is going to be fraught with problems if you’re wanting any kind of hardware transcoding.

This is because VirtualBox is a hypervisor (type 2) which relies on the underlying REAL OS to do anything.

For PMS to work, you go from the PMS → VM OS → Virtualbox → underlying host OS.
It’s VERY slow.

Type 1 hypervisors allow the guest OS to access the underlying hardware directly and are much faster.

Which use case do you have ?

Want to run PMS and read Linux is the answer?
Learning Linux?
Wanting something faster than Windows?
Wanting hardware transcoding?
