Do not use Mint.

It does not work for Plex. It’s too unstable and doesn’t work right.

Mint isn’t supported for these reasons.

Recommendation is to use Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04 desktop or server.
Do not use 24.04 yet. (It’s too new with no bug-fix updates yet)

Ugh. Great ok. Now I have to figure out how to install Ubuntu

Scroll down a bit into the thread… Screenshots and explanation.

If you aren’t already an Linux person read this. If you are disregard:

Expect this process to take some learning. If your end goal is to get PMS up and running quickly I think you will need to know some Linux already.

If you don’t know Linux you’re going to feel like you have been dropped in the woods with nary a single match after the install. The guides are here and Chuck did a great job documenting everything. You just have to know some stuff.

Chuck was a God send and helped me get everything installed. When it comes to the customization and knowing how to get it up and running, they can’t teach us all of the Linux admin commands and knowledge.

I may suggest you read through the ā€œCustomize ā€¦ā€in Tips and Tricks. If it makes sense to you proceed with no worries. If it does not, prepare for a learning journey.
I’m still bumping into trees 3 days after my install.

I hope this is coming across as helpful and not (too) discouraging.

…Mint is a fork of Ubuntu. If you can work out how to install an obscure ubuntu-fork, you can install actual ubuntu.
Ubuntu has a GUI installer, all the way from the boot usb. I

Not at all. Thanks!

Mint is not supported.

Ubuntu is supported.

We do not support Mint. It has proven, over and over again, to be too unstable.

In the link provided above, you will find how to install ubuntu from the boot usb complete with recommended partitioning based on a 500 GB SSD/HDD.

PLEASE take note here:

  • If having difficulty installing / figuring out what to do then perhaps Linux is not the OS to use.
  • We provide support for Plex on Linux. We are not equipped to teach Linux.

Administering and learning Plex on Linux will be difficult enough . Learning Linux on top of that compounds the problem exponentially

Yes, I got it installed so far not impressed. It’s slow as molasses. I thought it supposed to be better than windows.

@RBH4908

Which do you have installed, Mint or Ubuntu? Which is slow?

If you’re dismayed at the desktop ā€˜smoothing’ with Gnome, that’s easily adjusted.

I don’t like the default either

Ubuntu 24.04 as you recommended. I keep getting a store update and when I try updating it, it keeps telling me an error and just switching from screen to screen and opening windows are extremely slow it seems. Hope do I adjust it?

I recommended 22.04, not 24.04

24.04 is too new to use (no bug updates)

You get to practice installing … :musical_note: ā€œOne more time ā€¦ā€

Sorry I typed wrong. I’m not on 24. I’m on 22.04 LTS

What are you experiencing as slow? The animation?

If so, https://extensions.gnome.org

Create a login,
It will want you to install the plug-in for your browser so you can install the gnome extensions.

You will want ā€œImpatienceā€.

Here are mine. I’m a bit behind on keeping it perfectly updated.

I turn my impatience down… about 0.25 setting.

Also, install gnome-tweaks package.

You invoke it from the menu ā€œTweaksā€. You can do a lot there to speed it up
