Hi!

I have an extremely annoying playback issue since roughly a couple of weeks back.

Everytime I play something from my server I intermittently get these glitches/freezings/pixelations. They last a second or two. Sometimes the frame freezes and sometimes it’s just pixelations.
It’s not with a given interval, and it is happening with ALL media (4K HDR down to 720p. H264 and H265.)
No matter if it’s media recently added to the server or many years old.
No matter if I’m direct playing or transcoding, and no matter if I’m using subs or not.

I get them both locally and remote streaming. I get them on iPhone, iPad, ATV (wired), LG TV and Mac desktop (wired) (web and app). My users get them also on similar players.

I’ve played the same files back using VLC and cannot reproduce the issue. If I transfer the same files to other devices from the server, they play without issues.

Plex is running in a Docker container on Unraid. Using hotio’s repository. Been working great for at least a year.
At first I thought it might be the latest release so I downgraded twice to older versions, but no luck. Also tried deleting codecs folder in Plex appdata.

Tried to upgrade Unraid from 6.10.3 to 6.11.5, but didn’t help either.

Also tried to copy the appdata over to a different container from linuxserver but didn’t manage to enable QSV in that, no matter if I added --device=/dev/dri:/dev/dri in Extra Parameters or /dev/dri as a container device.

I’m slowly running out of patience here, please point me in some direction of what to try! Any ideas?

Nobody have any suggestions? I’ve tried multiple things to solve it without any success… :frowning:

  • I’ve nuked the docker image on the server and reinstalled Plex.
  • I’ve tried multiple fresh installs of Plex using different Docker repositories (binhex, linuxserver, official Plex).
  • I’ve run a memtest86 to make sure my RAM is good, multiple passes. No errors.
  • I’ve changed wall outlets, a desperate move I know…

I’ve also tried installing Jellyfin and tried streaming the same files through that, and that has actually been working. Haven’t been able to produce the same issues with that. So… Plex does seem to be the culprit. Unfortunately.

Is there some dependencies that Plex have that isn’t included in the Docker containers? Since all containers have the same problem I figure it has to be something else?!

Please help! I’m loosing faith here!

This is the Plex.app on my Mac. This sort of graphical errors I also get from time to time. I’d say exclusively on the artworks, posters and backgrounds like in this screenshot. Since that’s stored on the server in the appdata library, there must be either something corrupting the file when it’s transferred over the network to the Mac (or any other device I have, all present the same intermittent issues) or some sort of file corruption on the cache that is intermittent?! I really don’t get it.
