Has anyone had problems play video remotely because when I try it from a family members home the IOS Plex App start playing the video and then 15 seconds after the video has started the video picture freezes but the audio continues to play. At first I thought it was the video it’s self but when I tried it at home using the app it played normally. I am still not sure why it will not play correctly anyone got any ideas or is it the plex software/app that is the problem???
I just tried it out. Pulled out my iPhone. Turned off Wifi. Started a show. Got 30 seconds in, no video freezing. I observed that the video was transcoded to SD, using hardware transcoding.
Looks like I restricted myself to SD when on cellular. Changed app settings to allow full quality on cellular. Took a while to buffer the vid, but it eventually started. Got 30 seconds in, no freeze. Observed video was direct stream, but audio transcoded.
Tried every you said to try. But this only Happens when I am streaming from my Plex server on my computer when I am at my parents place using there Wi-Fi.
When you do that, can you pull up a browser window, login as the admin account (if you aren’t already), then take a screenshot of the dashboard there while you are streaming a movie from your home computer. We can tell a lot from the details here so we don’t have to ask 20 questions. Make sure to expand the details by clicking that fat hamburger icon to the far right.
Also, a speedtest result (or the advertised speed of your ISP) at both locations. I am thinking it might be a bamdwidth issue (not enough upload at home, or not enough download at the parents’ place).

My Download speed is 52.4mbps and upload speed is 9.64mbps
My Parents Download Speed is 58.7mbps and there upload speed is 5.80mbps
That’s a head scratcher. The vid’s SD resolution, and less than 1 Mbps. The audio track is transcoding (strange), but none of that should cause the issue of video freezing and audio playing. Especially if the same vid works fine locally, but not remotely.
I’m stumped.
I’m having this issue as well on a server/phone that have worked for years with no issue. It seems to have started around late July? Here is a reddit thread of people with similar issues
Direct play seems to avoid this issue as does some combinations of transcoding. Has anybody tried disabling HW acceleration?
I am also having this issue on the Apple TV 4th and 5th generation (HD).
