Playback on IOS does not work

Server Version#: 1.31.1.6733
Player Version#:8.15

I have a bunch of files that are encoded H265 HEVC at about 3K vbs and when sending them to IOS, I don’t see a movie at all. The server shows the playback as active when I start/stop. I have tried direct as well as different conversion formats and still the screen does not show a movie. (Playback does work to other devices)

On some movies when I change to original quality, then direct play works. (specifying to allow direct play has no effect on direct play). I appears that any non-direct play movie fails. When I drag the time bar, the popup window does show the movie pics. A few movies do not seem to allow direct play, so I’m stuck (downloading the movie also has no effect on playback)

Please reproduce the problem and provide both the ios logs and the server logs.

I tried a bunch of movies. 1 worked with direct play, both the others never worked. THe 1 that worked with direct play would not work with transcoding

Those are not the server logs. That’s the Plex Web client logs. Pleas try again.

You don’t have debug logging enabled, so there isn’t any info in the logs. Can you enable that setting and reproduce so we can get a new log? Only turn on debug, I do not want verbose.

I put in verbose for a little bit by mistake, but it was in debug for most of the session here

Your logs still have verbose enabled. You need to restart PMS when disabling a log level Disabling doesn’t go into affect until after the restart.

It’s ok in this case I was still able to read the log. I don’t see any errors and PMS appears to be working correctly. It is transcoding the movie, but it’s not making it out to your phone.

In your phone’s settings, there is an option for the Plex app to allow it access to your local network. Please make sure this is enabled, if not, enable it, restart your phone and try again.

I attached new logs. I restarted the media server before sending this. On both movies, I switched to direct play and that works (so it’s not the local network setting). But when set to automatic, nothing appears on the phone. I tried setting the old player on the iphone and that had no effect. So I presume the error is in the ios app but it could also be in the negotiation of sending the data over.

Don’t use the old player. You also have verbose logging enabled in the iOS app, please turn that off. You don’t need to restart the app. Can you playback again without the old player and get me a new log? I don’t need the server log. This appears to be something with the client.

Can you post the XML for this video too?

spy2.txt (33.4 KB)

Is this the files you wanted ?

I also wanted the client logs with verbose off and not using the old player.

I checked the player and it’s NOT set to the old player and debug is turned off

I think this the corrected log files. Did you check

That log is correct. Sorry, I’m still investigating.

Any luck yet. I assume the issue is with H265 HVEC encoding ?
