Having a problem after pausing a video for a while it will keep buffering and will not play till I stop the video and start it again, this does not happen every time and it happens on plex web, any ideas on what this could be? this happens locally and remotely

Ubuntu server 10.04
Looks like something with the transcoder as a movie that was paused for a long time switched to direct play and froze, after stopping the movie and starting it again it went back to transcoding. Any help please?
