Playback Speed Control

I’m just curious to know the views of others on playback speed control. It seems to me that it has application in almost all library types, but has only been deployed (sort of) for music libraries. For instance:

Music - The playback speed control is available with a speed range of double or half.

I can see it being useful maybe for listening to audiobooks, but unless it’s a tempo control isn’t particularly useful for music playback.

Photos - The playback speed control has not been implemented though it appears to be a popular requested feature.

Video - The playback speed control has not been implemented though it’s possible to skip forward and back through the video incrementally. There appears to have been some interest in video speed control in the past. I’d find it useful for say scanning quickly through security footage or looking at some footage in slow-mo.

Movies & TV Shows - Ditto as for video.

Does anyone else have an opinion on playback speed control?

I use Playback Speed Control for video on all platforms that have that feature (mainly VLC). The main benefit is for watching lectures and tutorials (education institutioncontent) - I speed up to between 1.25x and 1.5x based on the delivery pace of each lecturer.

Personally, I feel like there should be a more uniform deployment of playback speed control across all library types. It shouldn’t impact on the audio pitch so it should be a playback tempo control as opposed to a playback speed control. The difference is that the latter would sound like Darth Vader at one end and the Chipmunks or Daleks at the other, while the former would be like someone speaking slower or faster. It should also have a broader range e.g. x1/8 to x8.
