Playback speed of Plex (loading a new episode for play etc)

A friend mentioned trying Emby in conjunction with setting up a new TrueNAS server, and I don’t even remember the last time I messed with Emby so I decided to take it for a spin.

What I could instantly notice is how fast content loads up to play in Emby compared to Plex which at times even have problems playing media due to encodings. And when I say I “notice” it I mean it’s really significantly faster at initiating playback.

I know Plex is trying to make money on various partnerships, but this seems like a core feature that could obviously be optimized at this point since other players can do it.

Do you have any experience with Plex being slowed compared to other media players of this nature?

Plex is a media service, that is so focused on adding new features, that they neglect keeping the basics working properly.

this sentiment seems to be quite common on forums now that I’ve been looking closer, and it makes me wonder about what I just mentioned.
