Server version: 1.16.3.1402-22929c8a2
OS: macOS 10.14.5
Clients, w/ versions, if applicable: Apple TV 4K, Xbox One X, Xbox One S (all latest version). All gigabit hardwired. Wifi is only used for phones.
What you did? I was using an old MacBook (2010) as the server. Got a new home computer (2018 MacMini, 3.2 i7 Six Core, 32 gb RAM) and made a new Plex Server on this machine since it is significantly better than the 2010 white plastic MacBook. I did not copy the old settings over. All media files are on external USB 3.0 drives (two six TB drives) directly connected to the Mac mini.
What happened? Various playback issues have been occurring when I play back Psych. It’s encoded h.265 (HEVC) with e-ACS 5.1 audio. It randomly (as it appears to me) pauses and possibly buffers on all devices on the network. Sometimes it doesn’t happen, sometimes is happens repeatedly, sometimes it happens once and after hitting play again it is fine. This is all being internally streamed.
What you expected? Smooth playback as it was before I upgraded the server.
What are your (relevant) settings? Direct play / direct stream are enabled on all devices (again, all hardwired so throughput shouldn’t be an issue, especially since it was fine prior to getting the Mac mini). DLNA server is enabled. I don’t seem to run into the issues when using the Plex Media Player application on OSX.
Thanks for any help with this!
UPDATE: turns out it was a bad ethernet cable from the mini to the wall. Replaced it and no issues since.
