Player repeatedly fails to start playing media

This occurs on my Chromecast with Google TV only, my other players all behave normally. For some media files, trying to play from library leads to a blank screen followed by a return to the library. Attempting repeatedly will eventually get it playing ‘in the background’ while the UI returns to the library again, and selecting the file one last time gets it playing normally. For TV shows, automatic play of the next episode works as normal. Using the android app and casting to the Chromecast also works normally.
