Player UI Overlaying Bug - Plexamp V4.9 (Android Mobile)

thanks @aubrey.wodonga

Great to hear you fixed the issue. Thanks for catering to us Android 10 folks. Much appreciated.

Looking forward to the update. Thanks again for all your work.

Enjoy the drink!

Just a reminder that it isn’t resolved for me on v4.9.3. It seems like it has been fixed on the homescreen, but not on the search results and artist’s screen.

we might need more details because it should very definitely be fixed now.

It’s possible we missed a few instances of this issue.

The issue is triggered by certain elements being in view when the player screen is opened. If you could show us exactly what is under the player screen when this glitch happens, we’ll be able to fix it.

hi @aubrey.wodonga - I’m sorry to say that I’m experiencing it too on 4.9.3 (Android 10), but I’m pretty sure it’s only happening when I’m in the downloads list area. See attached image.

when I minimise the player window (drag down) and then navigate to the home screen and then tap the minimised player bar to bring the full player window up then the glitch goes away. Similarly, if I then minimise the player window, tap the downloads icon and then tap the minimised player bar window then the full player window has the glitch.

Allright, here’s screencap again. Note, It has been showing on every artist, but only for the first time. When a next song is played and I opened the artist, it didnt show the bug again (the first 2 artists in the video). It may do something with a element that loads for the first time, or at least for the artist side.

Its also ui glitching on nfc tag auto play

Hi @aubrey.wodonga . It’s good to see a partial fix for UI overlay issue in Android 10 but the issue still persists on the downloads page albeit in a slightly less extreme manner. There’s still icons showing that shouldn’t be. See screenshot taken using Plexamp V 4.9.4 in Android 10 using my Sony Xperia XZ2.

Hi @aubrey.wodonga - this UI issue is still there in 4.9.5. The half-opaque icons (as shown in my DJ Food screenshot above) are still displaying on the player window when on the downloads section.

Sorry for the delay replying here, I’ve been busy working on a few things behind the scenes.

Long story short, this specific bug looks to be a bit of a whack-a-mole one. It’s going to be very difficult to fix it properly using the same bugfix I applied to the cases where it is already resolved.

The real solution here is a significant upgrade to several of our core dependencies. This is what I’m working on now. Unfortunately I don’t have an ETA, as the upgrade process can be kind of fraught and requires a lot of testing to make sure we don’t break anything else in the process.

Just wanted to let you know I haven’t forgotten about you, and the fix will be coming.

Thanks for your persistence on this one, apologies I’m not one of the most active members in the forums (need to get better at checking in more often haha)

I fully appreciate these issues aren’t the simplest of things so I thank you for not ditching us out just for being on older OS devices

If you have a link to buy you a coffee or something similar please feel free to post and I’ll get you something your way <3

Plexamp v4.10 has a few fixes to mitigate occurances of this issue:

I can’t guarantee that we caught every instance of the bug, but I hope :crossed_fingers: we’ve got the worst of it now. Thanks for your patience with this one. Let me know how it goes!

@aubrey.wodonga - I saw the 4.10 announcement on reddit this morning! Great to hear about all the new developments. I appreciate the update from you about the UI issue. It does appear to have been eliminated from the library > track (or other attribute) > filter screen. I’m sorry to say that the issue still persists when on the downloads screen. But hey, it’s not a showstopper. Thanks for the continued work on this issue though. Now I have to decide if it’s worth checking out a tidal subscription for the new DJ feature!

I highly recommend a TIDAL sub  I’ve had mine since long before I started working with Plex. The new DJ has introduced me to so much new music in the last few weeks as we’ve been building and testing it.

I’ll take another pass at the downloads screen and see what I can do. I swear this bug will be the end of me haha

Any improvement to this in 4.10.1? I made a couple of changes that I’m hoping might’ve made a difference

hi @aubrey.wodonga - yes, it looks like you fixed the UI issue for the downloads screen. In fact I just checked the player screen when visiting the five main nav areas (home, library, search, downloads and settings) and it would seem that the player UI glitch has gone from them all. Thanks!

Sounds good.

Thanks again for persevering with the UI issue. I appreciate that you perhaps have better things to be working on. Thanks again to you and your team for all the hard work on Plexamp. I use it every day and it’s been instrumental (pun intended I guess) in reinvigorating my love of music and rediscovering my music collection and new music again! I absolutely love the different ways I can listen to my collection.
