Server Version#: 1.18.4.217
Player Version#: 2.47.0 (maybe)
Hello all,
I’m on macOS Catalina 10.15.2
On Plex Player Settings window it says that I’m using Player Version 3.104.2
Lately a Update notification pop’s up and says: An update to Plex Media Player was found You are currently running version 2.47.0 Do you wish to install version 2.48.0.1038
Non of the options (Install now or on next restart) are updating the player. It closes the player but keeps closed and no update process is running. I have to reopen the player and the same notification pops again.
And btw If I’m using version 3.104.2 why does it try to “update” to 2.48. ?
I tried to download the latest version of the player from the plex site but I have the same result.
This is two separate apps.
One is „Plex Web“, the web player bundled with your Plex Media Server. You’re usually running this through your browser via [your PMS IP address]:32400/web or https://app.plex.tv/desktop.
You seem to be using the version installed on your PMS (the hosted version is already newer than that one): Plex Web - #282 by chrishoage
The Plex Media Player is a separate app that has indeed just been updated to version 2.48. If the built-in update mechanism doesn’t work you can simply download the release from the release notes and drag it into your application folder
P.S.: if your server is still giving you version 3.104 of Plex Web means you haven’t updated your Plex Media Server for almost 6 months
thanks Tom that was fast
I’m not using the Web app am I’m updating my server regularly. it says that I’m up to date. I have the same version number with the download page.
All version numbers are copied from the player app it self.
I will try to download both server and player again hope this time it will work
Got it… I forgot you can also run the Plex Media Player in „regular“ mode (I’m so used to its TV mode).
Basically that regular mode is yet another instance of a bundled Plex Web. That’s why you initially got those „conflicting“ versions.
