I have a Samsung UN60KU630D smart TV. Plex client is 3.0.9 (2.12.6) over wifi. Other streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, live tv) work fine, but Plex app gives a “PLAYER_ERROR_CONNECTION_FAILED” error after several seconds. Have tried all sorts of tweaks. Not good…thinking of terminating Plex Pass if Plex doesn’t address this soon.

No, I have it on “prefer”.
The problems seems to have been with my CPU and/or motherboard. I had also been experiencing filesystem errors, problems sending emails with large attachments and Firefox browser crashes. I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU, and thus far, have not experienced any problems.
