Playing a music playlist doesn't work

Problem: when playing a playlist on the android tv app, the playlist isn’t adhered to. The first song plays, then the player continues to play the song’s album order playlist, deviating from the selections in the playlist.

  • Consider:
    Playlist1
  • album1/song3
  • album1/song8
  • album2/song6
  • album3/song1
  • etc
    When I play the playlist, it starts with album1/song3. Then the player plays album1/{4=> end of album}. In other words, it escapes the playlist and binds to the play order it would execute had I selected the song within its album.

Expected behavior:

  • the playlist only plays songs in the playlist in sequence

Repeatability:

  • same results from any music playlist on my server. This is not specific to a single playlist and occurs every time.

Cross-platform observations:

  • other Plex clients I’ve tried (web, android phone) do not suffer from this problem. They both produce the expected behavior.

How do you start the playlist?

I suspect that you just hit “select” on the first song at the top of the playlist. If you click on any item in the playlist while it is not currently playing, then it plays the album that the song is from.
You have to click the PLAY button at the top of the screen (or the random play button) to start the playlist. Then if you click on an item in the playlist, it moves to that item and continues in the playlist.

I consider this to be very un-intuitive at best, more like a bug, though.

That play button could be a little more prominent :grimacing:

It does strike me as undesirable behavior for sure, but at least I know now.
