Playing local trailers as Cinema Trailers before a movie

I’ve searched the forums looking for an answer to this but most of them regarding this question are from 2017 and earlier so I thought I’d take a stab to see if anyone listening can give me a definitive answer on this and how to do it if possible. If this is possible and has been answered somewhere else, I apologize but I was not able to find it.

Is there a way to play only locally stored trailers before a movie as Cinema Trailers? I want to block all other trailers pulled from the web because the video and audio quality on them, even to this day, is so poor that they’re not worth watching and it sort of ruins the experience. I want Plex to only play trailers which are locally stored.

I’ve named them correctly with -trailer at the end and placed them in the same folder as the movie file, I have “Enable Cinema Trailers” checked for every library, and I have unchecked “Find trailers and extras automatically” for every library. I’ve also seen forum posts that say it’s possible and some that say it’s not possible but I’ve tried everything suggested in those posts with no luck. Just to be clear, the Cinema Trailers feature works right now but I want to set it to only show trailers that I’ve downloaded myself.

Nothing I’ve done seems to work and, like I said, most of the forum posts are from years ago so I’m wondering if anything has been updated to allow this. I also saw it as a feature request but that was back in 2015. Something definitive on this would be greatly appreciated.

For trailer files that you have along with the actual movie file, in your servers “Extras” settings only check Include Cinema Trailers from movies in my library and you probably want to have Choose Cinema Trailers from set to All Movies Don’t check the other two options.

You can’t have a folder full of random trailers and use those if that is what you mean. Though I suppose you could use the preroll feature to select one at a time randomly. A preroll plays between the trailers and the movie. But you would need to enter every single path+file name.

That’s exactly how I have it set up yet Plex is still pulling trailers from the web. I kinda thought you couldn’t have a trailer folder but thank you for clarifying that. I really, really wish that was a feature (I know, along with everyone else, right?). I thought about using the preroll feature but I don’t want to lose seeing my preroll before a movie just to get a trailer instead. I wonder if there’s a certain number of trailers you need to have before it will start doing it? In one library, I have about 60 movies and I have trailers for about 15 of them that I added to perform some tests. Maybe I need to add more to get it to kick in?
