Playing Video on Plex Server

I am setting up a Raspberry Pi 3b+ to be used as a media center in my van while we do long summer drives. I have a simple question that is hard to find a simple answer to.

Can I just set it up as a Plex and use the Pi as a player, or would I need it to be a server and find something else to use as the player?

I was working with Kodi, but I just like the layout of Plex better.

Thanks!

Can’t help you with the Raspberry Pi specifics, however:

Plex has two parts, a server and a client. You need both. With more powerful systems (PCs, Macbooks, etc) you can run PMS & a client on the same machine. No idea if that is possible on a Pi.

There are difficulties getting Plex to work without an internet connection. If this applies to your setup, suggest you search the forum for details.
