Playlist randomization Options

One of the features I miss most from a previous Linux based car MP3 player was the Playlist Randomization options.

Basically, when building a playlist, you could set the playlist to randomize every time it’s selected for playback.

There were also weighting options for the items in the playlist so one could have a better chance of hearing a song that hasn’t been played as often in the list.

For plex playlists containing music, this would be especially nice. When I’m using plex-android in my car, I have to select the playlist and then go randomize it every time.

So - on the server in a playlists edit options, there should be a “Randomize on play” checkbox and maybe some weighting options?

That would be lovely. (unless it exists already and I’ve missed it)

If I read that correctly, this has to be done from the web client – and then once making it a playlist, the playlist becomes static.

I would imagine once it’s selected from the mobile client (via Android Car), it would suffer the same problem as playlists suffer now. They’re static by default.

Plex really needs to add the randomize option to the playlist.

It does have to be done from the web client, but once done, it will work from any client.

When you make a playlist using filters, it creates a Smart playlist, which means any new music added to your library that fits the filter criteria will automatically be added to the playlist.

Also, if you follow this specific step from that guide, the playlist will automatically shuffle every time you access the playlist, from any client:

• click in the URL of your browser, scroll to wherever the “&sort=” keyword is (like &sort=originalTitle), change it to &sort=random (removing the original column)

&sort=random

• press enter to make your browser load the edited url

Yeah, it would be nice if they add a button, but until that happens, this works.

Been playing with it.

So far, it’s pretty yuk.

Plex needs to add a checkbox to randomize playlists.
