Playstation 4 buffering

I’m having buffering issues when using my ps4. Everything works fine on my fire-box, but buffers constantly on the ps4. They are on the same network. Any ideas?

Sounds like the video you try to play requires some transcoding on the PS4 and that gives your server some trouble?!

from FAQ: Plex for PlayStation > What media formats are supported?

categoryPS4
Container:MP4
Resolution:1920×1080 or smaller
Video Encoding:H.264 (Level 4.1 or lower), (4K, HEVC for PS4 Pro)
Audio Encoding:AAC, AC3, EAC3
Bitrate:20Mbps or lower

Remark on PS4 max bitrate:

Tip! : While content up to 20Mbps will be allowed and you can adjust your settings as such, exceeding the recommended 8Mbps setting may result in poor playback.

To compare playback capabilities with your Fire TV box you’ll need to give me a hint what specific box you got.

Thanks for writing back so fast. I have the fire-box with 4K. It’s on OS 5.2.6.7. It’s not the latest model, but last years previous generation. I’m pretty rookie at some of this stuff, but I tried lowering the video on the ps4 app. Didn’t really help. The movies are all in mp4 format if that helps. Looks like it isn’t doing it with all movies either? Do I need to adjust the transcoding on the actual server?

when you play the video on your PS4… go back to Plex Web (e.g. https://app.plex.tv/desktop or https://your-pms-ip-address:32400/web) and check the currently playing section (under activities). This will show you if the server is actually transcoding the video.

If your server is not strong enough to adjust the video quality for playback on your clients, you should try to avoid changing the playback quality settings on those clients.

You can check out ... > Get Info for that particular video via Plex Web on the video pre-play screen. This will show you information on the video resolution as well as the used codecs and bitrate for video and audio. If any of those values is not supported by the PS4 or exceed an allowed maximum, Plex will attempt to transcode.
If this happens a lot you could look into Optimizing your videos for the PS4.

Ok, I’ll try that tonight! Thanks again
