Two questions:
- How do I resolve problem of no audio on some media files using Playstation 4?
- How do I view details of a media file (such as .m4v)?
I have been running Plex for quite some time with playback using a Roku device. No problems at all. The OS is Fedora and current plex is plexmediaserver-1.1.4.2757-24ffd60.x86_64. I have a friend renting a house on my property so set him up to be able to access my plex media server. Quick details: My house is 10.1.1.x and his house is 192.168.11.x. I set second NIC on Linux box to 192.168.11.244 and used vlan on my switch such that port from my friends network sees only the second network card on Linux box.
He is using a Playstation 4 with the Plex app as a player. Only a little experimenting so far and he found that some video had no audio while other video would play fine. My typical recording format is .m4v file generated with Handbrake on Linux. I am guessing that there is some setting needed in either the media player on Linux box or the plex app on his Playstation to resolve this. I would like some pointers as to where I should look.
It might help to find the details of a file that does play with audio and compare that to a file with no audio. Is there some utility similar to “exiftool” only for video files that will give me the details of a .m4v file showing me the audio encoding details for the file?
I have done some searching for information prior to making this posting but no luck so far. And a big thanks to all those that created Plex, it is an amazing bit of software.
