I hate TV view and I love PMP. I use it on my 49 inch family 4K TV as well as my desktop in my office. I really dont like the new layout which mirrors plex for Windows but I can live with it, but please dont force TV view. I just like the features that PMP offers including audio passthrough and I like the way it looks in desktop view, NOT TV view which is not convenient at all.
I understand the Plex team is trying out new things, I dont want to complain too vocally but I almost cancelled my plexpass when it was announced that PMP was being shut down but I saw that they team changed their mind which I thought was really cool. PMP works great so I dont see the need to force TV view on anyone.
As a paying customer on the annual plan, I’ve paid Plex every year for at least 5 years now. But honestly I don’t like the direction Plex is taking the software.
Plex is continually cutting the quality of the software down, removing features, and generally making a poorer product. Misjudging the target audience.
Rather than focusing on things such as 4K HDR Transcoding with proper tone-mapping, or improving the Music Smart Playlists features they are working on useless things.
I pay Plex for software that allows me to organize and watch the media I own in the way I want. If Plex cannot offer me that, why do I pay? Why shouldn’t I jump ship to another platform?
On my computer, I want Desktop Mode. It allows me edit and navigate my collection far better than the TV experience ever could.
But on my Gaming PC, I want TV Mode because it operates with either a game controller or a simple 2 button remote + a D-Pad. Why not use one of the apps on Xbox/PS4…etc? Because they suck. They lack core features I consider essential. The first among them is correct audio pass-thru and the highest visual quality by way of Direct Play. The TV/Console “Plex” apps don’t support this. So I will never use them.
