Setup:
Server is hosted at my House 120Mbps Download , 12Mbps Upload running on Intel Haswell i5 4670k 3.4Ghz
Player at my gf apartment - 60Mbps Down , 10Mbps Upload running on Xbox One(original) latest version 5.X.X.X as of 3/17/2018
What happening: I’ll be watching a movie/tv show doesn’t matter if I have quality set to 12,10,8 or 4Mbps at random anywhere between 10min and 60min the video will start “buffering” endlessly. Only way to get the video going again is to either change the quality or back out of the video and start it again. This has happened as oftern as 5times during an hour. Extremely annoying.
**What I’ve Tried:**Tried turning off “direct play” and “direct stream” in xbox app. Tried opening all plex ports and both remote and local router using static IP on xbox and server.
What I don’t Know:
1.I don’t know how to make sense of the logs if someone can point me in the direction I can write down exact times but there so many log files and don’t know where I’m looking or what I’m looking for
2.Is this happening to anybody else on the xbox one? Is it just the app?
Please any help or suggestion would be monumental I don’t know what else i can do at this point.
ATM ? its been like this for the last month or so… Plex is so perfect for my situation but i mean if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work. I’ll try a different alternative. Maybe give emby a try don’t know
Do i need to be a plex subscriber to get questions answered ? I will happily pay life time fee if this work like intended and i seen that the app been updated to 2.6.x.x but trouble still not resolved.
I feel like most people who use this app are on the LAN, probably very few people use it from remote location and no response from the plex team makes it very frustrating.
@“tonycipps@gmail.com” No, you don’t need to be a Plex subscriber, but this topic in particular has no answer. I’ve been dealing with the same issue since the new app rolled out. The buffering is one of the reasons that I keep direct play/stream turned off all the time. Has that helped you at all? Does it play better locally? Turning the quality down should definitely help, but you shouldn’t need to do that especially locally. If it’s worse when connecting remotely though that may be the only option when viewing from a remote location. Are there any specific types of files that are worse than others? The more info you can provide the better.
@mbarylski: I’m playing remotely, turning off direct play/stream does not help. Quality doesn’t matter, Ive played at 12Mbps for 30min with no issues and same video at 4Mbps upload quality and would encouter this issue within 30 secs and like @matthew10199 said changing the quality either up or down breaks the player out of its glitch OR close the player and re-enter also is a quick fix until it happens again and again and again and again…
Hi @“tonycipps@gmail.com”. Sorry about the issues you’re experiencing. We’re currently looking into the buffering issues you’ve described, thank you for the logs.
I’ve been having this issue since the new xbox one app was released. I would love the possibility to go back to the app before.
It is extremely annoying. I dread watching anything longer than 22 minutes just because I will have to turn on the xbox controller several times and then go back to Plex Dashboard and start playing the media file again. I barely watch any movies anymore just because of this, lol. Anyway, I love th ePlex App, but please fix thissss
Any news or progress on solving this problem. It’s gotten worse, i get this endless buffering almost 6 - 7 times in a 45 min episode. Unusable at this point. Please plex fix this issue
