Hello. I’m trying to raise awareness to a thread in the public forums around what seems a serious issue with Plex app on XBox One.
I too suffer this issue where every video file I try to play from my local NAS over a wired gigabit connection randomly gets stuck buffering and can’t be cleared until you exit the playback and restart.
This is the same with direct stream and play enabled and disabled across all variety of media formats and bitrates.
What’s more frustrating is that despite plenty of pleas from the users there is only silence in last few weeks.
Does being a paying plex member (for several years) spur any further response?
Also sorry for the multiple copies of this post. There was a lag in the screen refreshing and I thought it was an issue with the submit not firing. Apparently the Ask Question button doesn’t disable while its processing !
Hi there @cameronchurch. We’re well aware of the buffering issue some users are experiencing, and are working on it. There have been several fixes for certain manifestations of the bug in the last couple of releases, and we do try to point them out. But we know the issue still exists in some form, and are investigating it. Lack of updates on the issue does not mean we’re not working on it!
Hi @Moussa - thanks for the response and further insight.
I don’t want to get into a protracted debate about best practices on comms to users in scenarios like these but from this side of fence the lack of updates actually comes across exactly as the opposite: it really feels as if the issue isn’'t being addressed. Indeed Feb 20 (just about 2 months ago) was the last update on the issue - quite a long time . So please do try and see this from our side that although we don’t doubt things are manic behind the wonder door, without a window in we can’t know if our issues are one of the items being tackled.
To improve things a simple message saying it’s still being addressed - or indeed an In Progress label like in GHI would be immensely valuable to let people like myself know the resolution is still in the works.
Furthermore, given I’m an afflicted users, if there is anything I can do to help triage and resolve this issue please don’t hesitate to ask.
Second that, I last posted in January and it would be nice if there was something we can follow that will update us on progress, even if it is “none - still investigating”.
Quite frustrating not knowing whether an issue raised has been forgotten about or if it is being worked on.
Do you not have a bug tracking system accessible to the public?
Have you guys thought of using something like https://trello.com/ to show your roadmap and what things are being worked on etc. It would be really useful
I am having a similar issue with my XBOX One. I have a 10Gig wired home network (I know XBOX One only supports 1Gig, my server is custom with dual E52620 v4, 128Gig ddr4 with 320TB of storage, so I know it isn’t a server issue. But it only happens with large (10-60 gig uncompressed) high bit rate (15Mbps or higher) movies. This wasn’t happening before and now all a sudden in the middle of the movie it starts buffering and keeps going and going and going until I stop the movie and restart it. Which interupts the experience. And I have tried to replicate this on the server, my son’s PS4, my android tablet and phone, on my mac and on other computers, but so far it only happens on the XBOX One.
I am also having this issue with every movie I have. It has been happening since at least late November. My computer and Xbox one are both hardwired to the router. On the other hand my Roku which is wireless has little to no issues, as well as out of network access (connection at another location via phone or firestick).
