The idea of being kind in these forums seem to be an afterthought these days. I’m assuming we all are here because we love using and/or working on Plex? So why not just leave the rude, passive aggressive, dismissive and unkind behavior elsewhere?
I remember long ago you could respond to just about anyone and talk about random things here. Now some users and developers are just so unkind, cold and dismissive of people that its become rather “toxic” for lack of a better word.
So this is just a reminder (to myself also) that even if you disagree with someone, or don’t know exactly how to fix a users issue, or the developers can’t fix your issue, please just be kind!
There is an awful lot of “You must be working for the Content Mafia. How much did Elan pay you to post this? Are the Plex devs stupid or just lazy?” garbage around here these days.
The other day someone accused Plex of defrauding their business partners because the number of ads the user saw in the countdown during streaming content wasn’t correct. Yes, surely, crime is the best explanation for that observation.
So many people are jumping to insulting accusations and conspiracy theories… It’s bananas. I block people frequently because of it.
And it’s not just here. Most of the forums I use are degenerating. I stopped posting on Reddit entirely.
But I have to admit, I can do better too… Sometimes I get sarcastic when I see a kooky insulting post, and that doesn’t help. Thank you for the reminder to be cool.
I was gonna say. It’s the internet in general these days, sadly. I miss old communities where people actually had conversations that actually meant something. It’s all circles of hate, bad jokes and politics now.
Ya know, I’ve spent 15 years in retail asking for the very same treatment but ya know, when corporations don’t ever listen to the little guys who make them money, both the employees and volunteers, the company dismisses what could make them actual money, and stomps around like they absolutely know what their doing… then all that sweet kindness, what’s left of it, is turned into cold hearted insults and passive aggression. Do you not see that happen in other industries? Absolutely. This isn’t any different.
Some of us are absolutely exhausted of hearing the ongoing BS that plagues both sides, this very community AND inside Plex Inc. And while I’ve been warned myself of being banned, I absolutely still try to praise the good but omg it can only take Plex so far. The excuses for the never ending Plex service graveyard and mismanagement is beyond ridiculous.
Sometimes BOTH the community and Plex needs a breath of fresh air, new employees and new leadership. Unfortunately, we aren’t always in agreement with what’s happening on this journey. Parting ways is not what we want, but it’s often the solution.
