Most Info on DVR and Live TV can be found here In our support documents. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/plex-media-server/dvr-live-tv/ Which does include a more specific FAQ with info like supported Plex apps and doing things like removing commercials. There are some things below that seemed worth posting in forums
##Do I need a Silicon Dust subscription?
You do not need to purchase a Silicon Dust subscription. That subscription provides the EPG data for SiliconDusts own DVR software not for Plex. EPG data is provided as part of your Plex Pass subscription.
Tuner Compatibility
Certain tuners and devices are not compatible with Plex DVR. For a complete list of officially supported tuners, see Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas in the knowledge base article linked above. Additional unsupported tuners can be used by choosing them and acknowledging their unsupported nature during set up. https://support.plex.tv/articles/community-supported-tuners/
The devices below will generally not even show up as an option during set up
Ceton Tuners – This manufacturer has never supported the BDA standard in Windows, consequently anyone who wished to support them must integrate their proprietary framework. In addition, the company has discontinued development and support of the drivers and as such, Plex cannot support these.
EyeTV Netstream – This device uses a protocol that is incompatible and cannot directly be used with Plex today.
Generic Capture Devices – These are devices which are designed to “capture” the output and have been used in setups to interface with a set-top device in accordance with an IR Blaster. Unfortunately, because they lack BDA or DVB support, Plex will not be supporting these devices.
Satellite – Currently we do not have Satellite support. It’s something we are investigating, but there are some issues we will need to overcome, so likely you will run into issues with Satellite.
But if you are the tinkerer type, there is another option:
TVHProxy – This is proxy software, written to interface TVHeadend, which is a linux-based DVR package, with Plex. Many users have been able to utilize this to get their unsupported device working for now. We do not support this method, but have heard good things about it.
##Reporting Gracenote EPG issues
Unfortunately EPG data is not always correct. Whether is be a wrong poster, category, time or listing a complete different show. We have created the form linked below to get more concise info about specific channel EPG issues so that we can submit them to Gracenote in an efficient manner.
To be clear this is not for issues with EPG not downloading at all or isn’t refreshing properly in PMS. This is for when the EPG data that did download is incorrect or has channels missing.
We ask that you do not contact Gracenote directly about EPG Data issues.
