So I have been organizing my music library lately and created some playlists. My “Favorites” playlist contains about 1.800 tracks at the moment. I have an old iPhone lying in my car and was using the “Offline Downloads” feature on Spotify before in combination with CarPlay to randomly play songs from that playlist. Now that I moved to Plex I wanted to use this feature too because I have no access to internet in the car and don’t want to use cellular data. The iPhone is always connected via cable and basically never leaves the car.
However, if I tell Plexamp to download the complete playlist it just downloads 343 tracks with a total play time of approx. 1 day. The complete playlist has 1.864 tracks and a total playtime of 5 days and 2 hours.
If I tap the “Download” button again it tells me that it’s already been downloaded. I have tried downloading a smart playlist and it gives me a slider where I can tell Plexamp to download a specific total play time. The maximum allowed total time to download displayed is 24h which would explain why the normal playlist only downloaded song with a total playtime of approx. 1 day.
So after figuring out that this limit exists I ask myself, why?
There is enough storage on the device to hold my 1.800 songs in the playlist, so please let me decide if I really want to download everything in the playlist. As mentioned before, I want to download these songs for offline usage for places I don’t have access to the internet or don’t want to use cellular data. Furthermore, the downloaded songs are in alphabetical order and don’t match the order of the playlist. So this feature is somehow broken in two ways. There’s also no limit on Spotify or Apple’s own music app which I both have used before.
Thanks.
