Please update plex on snap

Hello,

Please update the snap version of plex. I see that 1.14.1 is out, but it is not available on Ubuntu snaps. The latest snap on the beta snap channel is 1.13.10.352. Please update!

Thanks!

Hello? I thought the point of snaps was getting updates fast? Whats going on?

I’d also like to know whether Plex plan to continue snap deployment. Even if it was just an experiment that you no longer plan to go ahead with it would be good to know.

An official statement one way or the other would be very useful as I am considering moving back to your .debs or Docker but I would rather stick with snaps.

Thanks

It would be nice to get an official reply on this from the Plex people. I came here wondering the same thing as well. Can any plans or updates be shared?

I decided to post a reply after daily refreshing this thread for the last month.

Yes it would be great to get an official update as the container hasn’t been updated since October. Is there a reason why it’s not maintained ?

I switched from a Plex Synology server to a snap server to bypass the VPN connection issue. It would be sad to abort this project.

Any idea why anyone from Plex is not responding here? This is frustrating

It looks like they communicated for the launch and let the product unmaintained.

This is a shame.
NO official response from PLEX Dev Team as usual.

I think they should give snap maintenance to snapcrafters since they support other projects

Unfortunately I just saw this thread, a day after installing the snap. Is the consensus that it is not going to be supported?

The snap package appears to be vaporware. It hasn’t been updated since the fanfare of its initial release in October 2018. It’s far enough behind that it’s missing features and I’m getting warnings from plex clients about the age of the server version. I have abandoned snap in favor of manually installing the linux packages.
I previously gave up on their Docker image for the same reason - updates are too infrequent.

For anyone looking to move away from snap, you’ll find the “Application Support/Plex Media Server” folder at: /var/snap/plexmediaserver/common/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/

I’m a lifetime Plex Pass subscriber. I felt good about supporting Plex. I’m also a Linux user and I was really excited about the Plex Snap package. I think it’s fair to ask for an update on the status of the Snap package. Please respond.

Update: I switched to the plexmediaserver-plex-pass package in the Arch AUR repository. It has the latest version.

Hey all,

The snap package has been updated to the latest stable version. Apologies for the delay, we were focusing on getting out this release which has been cooking for a long time (see this post on the technical details if you are interested: https://medium.com/plexlabs/preparing-plex-media-server-for-the-next-10-years-d54fc3f47bf)

Thank you, finally it is updated. removed deb and now using snap again

Thank you for the update and the technical details, it’s great work !

Edit: Just noticed that the snap has updated too, great!

Thanks for all of the hard work and pushing out a new snap!

I noticed today that a new release has been pushed to the .deb releases Version 1.15.3.858 and that the snap is still at the Version 1.15.2.793.

Is the plan to have snaps release with the same cadence of your other platforms (such as .deb) or is it still a manual decision to update the snap whenever you have time?

The plan is to release with the same cadence. The code to push the snap automatically is not in production yet, so currently it’s me pushing the buttons, but that will change soon.

I would like to try the new notifications feature, but the Snap version is not updated yet. Can you please do that?
