On 1.22 playing back a 4K HDR remux of my following discs Pineapple Express, The 5th Wave, Alien: Covenant, basically anything that’s TrueHD 7.1 -> EAC 7.1, I don’t get audio, but I do get HDR. Going back to Plex 1.21 doesn’t have the audio issue, but it also doesn’t play then in HDR.
If I play something with DTS-HD -> AC3 5.1 I get audio, like Guardians of the Galaxy.
I’m also using the most recently media server from a Mac (1.11.0.4666).
Playing a video that just has EAC-5.1 also doesn’t provide any sound on 1.22.
Still no audio on videos that direct stream HDR but transcode the Atmos audio to EAC-3 on the release from today.
Does anyone read these?

Settings (the system settings app) -> Video and Audio -> Surround Sound -> Dolby Digital 5.1
And also, what is your sound out played through? (Optical / HDMI / AV Receiver / etc??)

After changing that, I get audio. Obviously only 5.1 instead of 7.1.

It’s going from the ATV4K to my Denon with HDMI, then HMDI to the TV for video. The Denon supports EAC.
In my living room just going from the ATV4K to another 4K TV I don’t have the sound issue.
Okay so this was driving my crazy. I initial thought that my Sonos setup was the cause. I was getting no audio on my surround speakers. So this is what I’ve found so far and maybe this will lead to a solution for all.
DCA to AC3 no surround sound
AAC to AC3 no issue
So I played the same movie on the my native Plex app on my Sony TV. Audio was prefect, surround was playing instantly without any issue. I’ve tried changing the settings on my 4K ATV from Best Audio, to 5.1. No differences. Tried adjusting setting on the Plex.app in the ATV no change either.
I’ve been able to narrow it down to files that have DTS audio being the issue in this current build. We have never had this issue before. We always had surround sound without any issue, up until recently. I’ve set my ATV to submit logs as well as verbose logs. Hopefully this can help in identifying the audio playback issue.

A different issue than I’m seeing then, the movies I have with DTS are playing fine, while the TrueHD → EAC3 is what’s giving me my issues.
Audio issues are the worst…
I think I’m having a similar issue as wakkedoff. When I play .mkv files with DTS-HD MA or TRUEHD sound it gets reduced to stereo with the AppleTV set to Surround Sound: Best quality. When I set Surround Sound to DD 5.1 I get that.
My issue with TrueHD -> EAC 7.1 is still present in 1.23.
