Plex Access via custom URL

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364
Player Version#: 4.110.1 - I think

Hey All

Plex is hosted on my Synology directly (not docker or otherwise) and I am trying to get my ios/android tv app access plex via my custom URL. Web app works fine as the server is logged in and I presume is publishing the custom URL, however I cannot get the apps to even see the URL. Within IOS I’ve tried specifying a manual IP but with no success.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

PMS will always publish using the automatic (brokered) URL which the apps know.

Any Custom URL which you provide will be added to the publishing list.

  1. Full https://FQDN:port notation where the port is your WAN port-forwarded port.
  2. PMS must have also added (imported) the external FQDN else it will not allow access (Settings - Server - Network - Show Advanced)

Don’t forget to hit SAVE when making changes.

Thank @ChuckPa. I can confirm that I have entered https://FQDN:wan port. I’ve also entered WANIP: wan port. Still no luck

Note that dns entry is cached with cloudflare just in case that makes a difference. (I’m using my own domain)

What am I doing wrong?

I looked at your account.

You’re fine – I’m the idiot :man_facepalming:

You enter the URL (the https://fqdn part)
Plex uses your Remote Access port automatically.

I can see your FQDN published.

Try it now: https://YOUR.FQDN.TLD:your_published_port

No worries at all. So I should just enter my FQDN without a port? Even though my wan port is one that is not known?

Go look at the server. Settings - Server - Remote Access.

It will show you the WAN port number

This all depends on how you want to access things.

If doing a fully manual server addition to a Plex app, then you’ll need the WAN port.
If you’re selecting it, you’ll be able to use the FQDN without port.

Thank you. I think we are taking about a fully manual server addition here. The remote access section is just showing the standard 32400 port, which I am not using.

So all I need to do is specify the port u see custom url?

Yes, you will need to specify your external WAN port in the URL.
