Plex 'Administration'

Hey guys, Not entirely if this is the correct place but i’ve had a search of the forum and not found much in the way of answers.

I’m wanting to share my plex server with several people. BUT… Here comes the tricky part.

All the people that are on fire sticks currently require to be “pinned” in.
Is there a way of installing another apk within the firestick that has the option to login via email and password? So that i can invite them and keep a track of everything as i’d like to limit everyone to 1 connection so to speak.

Plex doesn’t have a way to limit users you share with to 1 connection. So it won’t matter if they use the PIN or email address. They could use the same on another device and still have access. Plex is not designed to be an actual Netflix like service where you limit access. It’s meant to be for friends and family. If you can’t tell then and they can’t following only using one device, than you shouldn’t be sharing with them.

Do you have them as part of your Plex Home (you mention they are “pinned”)? That is not required to share your libraries with them.

Instead of Plex Home, use PMS Settings → Sharing. When they activate the FireStick it will show a 4 digit code on the screen. They enter the code on plex.tv/link and the device is activated. They can configure autologin in the Plex client, so they do not have to re-activate / login every time they use Plex.

You still control which libraries to share with each user.

They will need a free account at plex.tv.

If currently part of your Plex Home and you change them over, they will no longer inherit your Plex Pass capabilities for mobile clients. If using a phone or tablet, they will have to pay to unlock the app.

Remote streams allowed per user
This can be set to 1… So there for there is limitations implied.
Maximum number of simultaneous streams each user is allowed when not on the local network.

Sorry no. I didn’t make myself clear enough.
Not using the plex home…

I’d like to have everyone “Invited” I’ve got Tautulli installed etc and i’d like to keep track of thing’s.

Fire sticks are pin access only i believe as i’ve not found any other way to log people in on them.

What happens when you invite them? My remote users just logged into their Plex account in the Fire TV app and it worked as expected.

Correct. That will limit the connection to 1 stream, but not to 1 device. So the person could still connect from 20 devices at the same time to browse your server. They can only play on 1. If that is what you want, then sure that setting will work.

Why can’t you just let the people you are sharing with use the PIN method?

I want to change it to login so i can keep an eye on thing’s with Tautulli instead of checking devices and seeing “AFTT” and not knowing who it is

No they don’t. If they had their own plex account i could invite them onto my server.
If they have a pin they can send me it and i pin them in.
Or they could make their own account and pin themselves in.

Is there any limitation to how many people you can pin in with an unsubscribed plex account?

Devices/Users. It’s all the same thing. The only real way someone is going to set up users is for home sharing

No, it’s not.

Great explanation. Thanks for that :+1:

I have no intention of explaining anything to you. I know why you are asking for this type of thing and so do you. The answer to your original question is no.

Because i was wanting an answer to seeing if there was other ways for people to login on a firestick…

Wow you lot are smart…

You’re not.
