Hi,
I’ve invited a friend of mine to remotely access my libraries (with en email) and since he accepted, he can completey and normally access it, but I can’t add a PIN number, unlike my primary account and another friend’s! I don’t understand, the padlock on said account is greyed out and cannot be clicked on. I don’t know what to do, please someone help
There is no need to set a PIN on regular ‘shared’ users.
The PIN is only necessary for users who got invited into a Plex Home. Plex Home has ‘Fast User Switching’. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/features/plex-home/
There, it prevents users from switching into each other’s accounts.
Regular shared users who are not in a Home, cannot use Fast User switching and therefore don’t need a PIN.
It is not recommended to invite users into a Plex Home who are not living with you in the same household.
It’s their account. If they want a PIN for their account they have to add it themselves on their account page
Not sure where exactly it will be, but tell your friend to log in with his account @ Plex > settings > account > home users and click on the lock for his name on your server/home to set his own pin.
edit confirmed above
@OttoKerner: let’s imagine I have different users sharing different libraries, whether it’s home users, or any other kind of users, they all have access to my Plex, but different libraries… that means there IS an interest to use a PIN for each account. Let’s imagine I have more than imaginary friends on FB, but I have also REAL friends who aren’t living with me in the same household but I want to share my plex with, is it still recommended to invite them or not?
@TeknoJunky: thanks for the answer, I’ll ask asap my friend to do that and hopefully that’ll solve the pb.
uhm, well
- otto is not wrong
- if if you want help, don’t call people who try to help you morons
home users are different than shared users
shared users do not get PINS
only HOME users can get a pin due to the fast user switch (like netflix profiles).
So yeah, be kind, rewind.
My first post is edited.
He might be right to you but didn’t answer and mostly gave his opinion on whether I should or not put a PIN.
I was particularly angry at that time and responded with anger to someone who gave me an opinion and not a solution to my problem on a support forum. I paid for a life pass and cannot even have access to anything else than a forum and I dislike having people giving me opinions rather than solutions on a support forum!
I’m sorry but next time I have a problem I’d rather have the type of answers you gave me than he did.
You didn’t pay for support.
angry or not, your post was out of line, I would have edited it myself given the opportunity. You were fortunate to even get a response and not have a bunch of people simply report it as inappropriate.
I’ve had my own share of angry posts, but I try to keep it civil and within reason.
I said the same thing Otto and BigWheel said, just phrased with a bit more direct action.
Anyway, the solution is there along with the reasons.
