Plex after recording doesn't move into correct directory and disappears from library

Server Version#: 1.29.1.6276

Hi Everyone,
After my recording successfully finishes in Plex it stays in the ./grab folder and does not get moved into a show folder is this correct by design? When it stays in the ./grab folder it disappears from my library even though the ./grab folder is in my primary library folder. Not sure since this is a hidden folder it does not get scanned properly by the library manager? Should the Plex Media Server be moving it into the TV Show Folder? This is the weird line that isn’t an error, but doesn’t look right to me:

Moving "/media/tvshows/.grab/2d670680b3f82705139140b1ed5d976763643b30-ac6b423a4e3ad886f1d8b9a9ee101ea789b0b178/Big Sky (2020) - S03E03 - A Brief History of Crime.ts" to "/media/tvshows/.grab/Season 03/Big Sky (2020) - S03E03 - A Brief History of Crime.ts"

Normally I would expect to see it move from a directory under .grab to a location specific to the show in your library. Is this TV Show library defined as using folder /media/tvshows? If so, I would have expected it to move to /media/tvshows/Big Sky (2020)/Season 03/, not /media/tvshows/.grab/Season 03/. It moving the file to, and leaving it under .grab is definitely a problem.

Working from log snippets is tough, so I’m going to ask a lot of questions:

  • Has this worked for you previously and only recently become a problem, or is this a new setup?
  • Would you go into Plex Web, then open “edit” for this library, and check where the folder is defined?
  • Is this a bare metal install, or Docker?
  • What OS is this? It’s obviously some flavor of Linux, but can’t tell which.

I don’t know if this is your problem but if this is Ubuntu (or Mint), then I know that Plex recommends to not use /media as a library location because of how the OS (Nautilus I think) claims ownership of /media. If this is an auto mounted disk then you should likely manually mount it someplace else and/or set it up in fstab so it mounts someplace else on boot.

Not sure if I am having the same problem I have Unbuntu 18 it has been working fine. Think it might be a recent update that has caused it.

Not sure what logs you need to see what is happening.

Also noticed after it disappears it no longer shows it in the DVR schedule for the day.

I had updated to PlexMediaServer-1.29.1.6260-420892357
I removed DVR added it again, waited till guide updated, then started a recording it failed very quickly.
Could also no longer watch a channel on live tv.

Downgraded back to PlexMediaServer-1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3 deleted and re added dvr seem to work fine again for a recording

I was able to fix the issue I added another folder to my TV Show Library /media/plex-recordings. Then I was able to go into the show recording and select the folder I wanted plex to store the recording in and it works(Moves the show from .grab to /media/plex-recordings &/or moves them to /media/tvshows).

I think it was some kind of weird issue due to being run in a docker container or the fact that I have tried plex DVR on this install in the past and some old settings causing issues from a year or 2 ago.

Also you are correct on the /media folder because of how Nautilus claims ownership. I will be switching this to /data in the future but I want to make a backup of my library files before doing so.

Your issue sounds much different then the issues I had if you could provide your logs I’d be happy to sift through them.
