Remember the played position for music is extremely annoying.
However, it is very useful for audiobooks, but it’s all or nothing. The feature should be able to be set to apply to audio file that have a duration more than X, x being a custom setting.
I have some remix songs that can be over an hour but typically audio books are 5 to 10 hours long, while most songs are under 6 minutes. I would want the position to be remembered for anything over 10 minutes long but not for anything under.
There is an option for each library to remember/track progress (︙ > Manage Library > Edit... → Advanced > Store Track Progress). You would usually enable that libraries with longer audio elements – e.g. audio books.
I’m not 100% sure if you’re aware of that but ask for the option to be available per file – or if you might have missed this option.
Yes the option is available per library but I have all by audio files under a single library. I suppose I could create a specific library for audiobooks rather than a collection, thought it would be useful for the feature to detect the audio length and tailor it that way rather than multiplying libraries.
Personally, I consider splitting media into different types (e.g. music, classical music, audio books) to be helpful for structuring – especially because they’re quite different and won’t play nice, e.g. if you start a library radio / shuffle and get them all mixed up. But… that’s just my two cents and shouldn’t discourage your suggestion. Thanks for clarifying!!
The problem is the way iTunes organizes the files by author and not by genre. Reorganizing by audiobook is an extra step moving the file from the author folder to the audiobook folder. Plex does not move files that I am aware of.
