Plex and privacy - do they even care?

Almost exactly one year after I purchased a lifetime pass Plex made me completely regret that decision but choosing to share my viewing history to friends with no warning and without my permission. To make matters worse, there’s not a way to easily opt out without heavy tinkering.

I’ve spent all day trying to find any way to submit feedback or get some support directly from Plex but it’s obvious that they are not interested. All of the threads with this topic have been closed almost immediately, there’s no way to submit feedback via email, and every link on the contact page is actually just trying to sell you Plex Pass.

At this point my question is this: does Plex even care? I’ve spent the better part of the last 2 months building a Plex server for my dad and I was going to gift him a lifetime premium subscription with it, now I have to make alternate plans

Nah, the first and most active one is still very much alive.

They provided some potentially-useful information in this thread, if you’re interested. It clarifies some things and provides additional information around some concerns regarding what is shared.

No because we users are not the customers of plex, inc. Intercap led the last series C round of VC investment. Plex, inc only listens to whatever Intercap wants via a MVP in order to get milestone payments.

Any other explanation just doesn’t make sense.
