Plex and rar files

Hi

I’m looking for a simple guide to get rar2fs working on windows.
There used to be a post/guide in the plex forums but the link is dead now: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/32897-rar-workaround-for-windows-users
I’m hoping someone may have kept it or can assist. I tried to follow various posts I found in my searches but my nix knowledge is very poor.

thanks in advance

You unzip them using any of the hundreds of tools available and then name them correctly for Plex and then move into a directory seen by Plex. That is all there is to it.

That’s not what rar2fs is for. It’s so you can play rar’d files without bothering to extract them.
It’s a basic feature on Kodi and MPC-HC (I think VLC too), I think all using rar2fs solution which is sadly not available natively on it’s own for windows

But as far as I know Plex does not play such files. In order to play them you must extract them into a format that Plex sees as a video.

Also I might add that there is really no point in keeping files in such a format. You do not save any real space and it complicates things.

Correct, plex doesn’t play such files, which is why I want to get rar2fs working. It’s not a plex feature, it’s a system feature.
Oddly, Plex doesn’t support SUP files either unless you transcode the video, but I prefer SRTs anyway.
The point is not needing to extract several gbs worth of rars just to watch something, and for some reason some videos I get are packed in that way, not sure why they do it.
There is a simple solution for it (rar2fs) that several other players are using for years and years.
