I've just signed Plex Pass, but now i've discovered that there is no support for Rar files, sorry guys, but if its gonna keep that way, that was my first and last month on Plex Pass ;/
edit:
And download of subtitles is broken
I am locking this one to avoid voting on several threads with the same request. /Atrus 2015-02-28
I guess it won't be coming either. RAR-files is not a standard for movieplayback.I know some players have support for it, which I think it's kind of weird. RAR-files is a format for archived files, not for videos. I know the videofiles are archived in it
Plex even doesn't have VIDEO_TS playback support for instance, so why would something like RAR-files being supported? Just unpack the RAR-files and you're fine. When you download with proper tools, the files will be extracted for you as well. RAR-files compared to unpacked videofiles aren't that much smaller. ;)
I don't disagree with what you're talking, but what i'm saying is: Older version support this, and then new version that supposed to be better does not support anymore, on my understanding this is moving backward...

It's relatively easy for one client to support something like this (well the desktop client anyway) but a lot harder to support this server side for all the client devices which Plex now runs on.
I think it was a quality/resource decision and for the select few this would impact i don't think it will make an appearance again.
Just extract your RAR files and start enjoying Plex :). Also why did you buy a Plex Pass?

I thought that would have some difference, but its same thing ;/
Personally, I guess I'm just curious why all your video files would be RAR? If you're zipping them yourself, you're wasting time - it's saving you tiny, tiny bits of space, at most. If you're downloading them or ripping them that way, you should probably find a better method, to be quite frank.
"rar2fs is a FUSE based file system that can mount a source RAR archive/volume or a directory containing any number of RAR archives and read the contents as regular files on-the-fly. Non-archived files located in the source directory are handled transparently. Both compressed and non-compressed archives/volumes are supported but full media seek support (aka. indexing) is only available for non-compressed plaintext archives. In general support for compressed and/or encrypted archives is "best effort", highly depending on what type of information the archive contains and by what method it is accessed."
