No, RAR files are not supported by Plex.
There is a program called rar2fs that can mount a file system with the rars transparent. I have used this for quite some time on my ubuntu server to let Plex see inside rar-files without extracting them. Technically it should be possible to do this on a synology aswell as it’s a Linux based system and FUSE support seems to be included.
I just got myself a ds1813+ so I’m going to try to get this to work somehow. Although I’ll still run Plex on my ubuntu-server for transcoding CPU power.

I have nothing left of what I did back then. But it was not rocket science. Just download and install the freely available toolchain for your Synology NAS and build the package yourself.

I’ve tried to do the same thing, but got stuck on getting Synology’s toolchain to work.
I eventually solved this in a way that works really nice (at least for me) using Entware/opkg.

I’m looking for some simple guide to use rar2fs on windows. I tried to follow your various posts in different sites but with little to no knowledge in nix, I find it hard to accomplish.
