Plex and xplay are buffering (on lan)

Server Version#: Version 1.16.1.1291
Player Version#: Plex for LG 3.105.0 Latest Web OS 3.8.0

Hi everyone,
I wanted to get some advice regarding a dilemma I am in. I splashed the cash on a new Synology 218+ and a 6B hard drive to enjoy plex on my LG OLED Tv.
What I have found is that when I try to watch a 70 GB mkv movie Plex player tends to lag a lot (always buffering) and Xplay is just as bad, however when going into the LG tvs own app of photos and videos and running the movie from there, there is no lag? Why is this?

My Synology hdd is connected to my google wifi router which is wired into my LG OLED TV so the whole network is cable, no wireless, still I am getting buffering issues, as far as I know no transcoding is taking place but surely this NAS is powerful enough to prevent Buffering from happening?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like something is configured for jumbo packets (anything with an MTU > 1500). these are performance killers. The LG will also request smaller blocks more frequently so the data stream is continuous and can deal with this issue more easily. Plex and other players usually make fewer but larger requests. As a result, the read delay causes the buffer to empty out and produce the visible lag.

I think it may be my tvs ethernet port which isnt able to support high amounts of data transfer (above 100Mbps)

Hi sliyk,
In the very beginning everything was fine, but now I have the same issue for a couple of months. I tried it via my Wi-Fi connection and LAN connection. Purhaps it’s no solution for me. Buffering all the time. So did you fix the problem or also no solution at the moment?

Anyone fixed this buffering problem with LG TV and Plex or xplay app?

If you have a problem with both Plex and another app on your LAN,

The problem is your LAN. Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do without being hands-on.

The best diagnosis technique is to start running speed tests (speedtest.net) on the devices and start drawing it out on paper. At some point, you will see where the bottleneck point / device is.

hi @FerdyB
there is absolutely somthing you can do. Go to amazon and buy this dongle. If you have th same tv I do LG 65B7V this will solve the majority of your problems.

get this exact make and model. it uses the usb 3.0 port to work as lan
