Plex Android App didnt work after update on Android 12

Server Version#: 1.25.0.5246
Player Version#: 8.25.1.28703

After Updating my Samsung 21 Ultra to the newest Android 12 Version, i am not able to stream Videos from my Server. I had the latest stable release installed and for Test purposes the beta on. Same for both. I can see my Libaray and after i hit play, o can seen just the loading screen. I cannot even chosse to transcode or play original, because the Option is missing. Sometimes (rarely) it do work for a while. After restarting the mobile App it did not work. Neither Movies or Show or Music. Nothing. Changes in the App didnt work. W-Lan or Mobile Data make no Difference. No specific Issues to see in the log. On my Ipad Air 2020 no Problems…

Do you have any Idea what it could be?

Many thanks in advance.

Pixel 4a. Android 12. ā€œSeems like you don’t have an internet connectionā€

Plexamp still works fortunately.

Yeti. Plexamp work also for me on Android 12.

I’ve a Samsung S21 with Android 12 and the app works fine for me. Try deleting cache and data in the app settings. It might help if you have not tried it already.

Player Version: 8.25.1.28703
Server Version: 1.24.5.5173

I also am facing this on my S21 Ultra on android 12. However if I restart my phone it works for a while but coming back an hour or 2 later it stops working and I get the same issue mentioned (spinning wheel). Tried uninstalling clearing cache and data but no luck. all other apps like Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video are fine.

Strange, haven’t experienced it yet on my S21 with android 12 but will report back if it starts to happen.

I can consistently repro this issue on my S21 ultra with android 12. Disabling ā€œuse hardware acceleration when availableā€ on my plex server makes this issue stop on my phone. Turning hardware acceleration back on from my plex server breaks this with the same repro again on my phone.

Plex server version: 1.25.0.5246
Plex android app version: 8.26.0.28833

I too am having issues with my S21 Ultra after taking the Android 12 update this last week, cannot play anything. My tab s6 on Android 11 works perfectly fine.

Oh, I have same issue.
Not play any videos after upgrade to Android 12 (OneUI 4.0).
Samsung Glaxy S21 Ultra 5G (on exynos).

It’s show library, I can click on play video…
but after that the circle with the load spins endlessly.

Can play videos when switch to external player in settings.

All in my local net (over wifi). All other devices play videos normally.

I would like to add, I get an error when using an external player.

Have same bug in Samsung S21 Ultra in new Android 12. No playing movies and TV No mp3 nothing…

Same problem here, Samsung S21, Android 12.

Hope we have a fix soon.

UPDATE:
I have completely reset my mobile S21 back to factory, reinstalled PLEX add and it made no difference.

Adding my device to the list too. Upgrade to Android 12 on my Galaxy S21 Ultra and I am having the same spinning wheel issues.

I have attempted to disable hardware encoding but it has made no difference for me.

I have attached logs from my phone and also my Plex server.

logging.txt (1.6 MB)

I have the same problem with my Galaxy S21. I found a workaround for my self, if you set the video to watched it will play. But I also have the problem that, if you pause the video you cant unpause and you have to close it and reopen it.

Confirmed the above ā€˜watched’ method which seems to temp fix the issue

I’m S21 Ultra 5g Android 12 aswell

I just installed the latest beta version of the android app and the issue has been fixed.

UPDATE:
Scratch that, same issue came back immediately after testing 1 movie.

Same here. Also galaxy S21. Player stopped working after Android 12 update. I’ve tried clearing cache and reinstalling the app but didn’t help. Enabling the external player works for me if that helps anyone.

Newest beta update seems to have fixed the problem

Edit:
Scratch that doesn’t work anymore
