edit : I took 2 screenshots to show the difference when I cast from my phone or from another device. The first one is when I cast from any device (here from an old Huawei P20 lite) :
This is one is when I cast from my S21. When I see that the screen remains like that, the video won’t launch and will display the “Something went wrong” inevitably.
The cast icon is orange on my phone. As you can see on the screenshots I’ve just added in the previous message, the behaviour on my TV screen is not as expected. I think that could be a lead.
Thanks, so we can narrow this down. Could you install this APK; https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/nightly/PlexForAndroid-8.29.0.30173-7253c3f1-Armv7aGooglePlayStdExo-nightly.apk it will install as a new app called Plex (Nightly), sign into your device, then connect to your TV via the cast icon and play the first thing you have available (without browsing the app), keep the player open for a minute after playback fails, then close the player and grab the zip logs from the settings. Hopefully this will generate logs that are a bit clearer on what’s going wrong, from the previous logs you have shared it looks like the TV is disconnected so we end playback.
Hi - just wanted to say thank you so much for getting to the bottom of this, it’s made the Plex app basically unusable for me for a couple of months now. I have disabled notifications and all has been fine since. I’ve no doubt a future Plex app update will resolve Samsung’s ■■■■ up for good! Thanks again, fine work!
Mine is still unusable but thought it had more to do with the latest Plex update. Download episodes won’t run because they are corrupt (fine if I try and redownload them), screen becomes unresponsive, app runs slow, player controls dissappear, episodes marked play after watching the downloaded version aren’t marked as played on the server, etc. Been a real mess on my end.
Hi,
thanks for trying to work on a solution eventhough the Problem seems to be on Samsungs side (?)
I’m also using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which won’t playback anything until deactivating notifications (using a Plex 1.25.3.5319-6000 Server on a Synology DS418 NAS).
My question is: Should Samsung be informed of this in some way/shape or form? Because my guess is that there are even more issues with the S21 Ultra: I can’t playback the majority of media (or rather video strams within avi containers) that was encoded with DivX4 (DivX5 sometimes works) and/or XviD while beeing in the plex app… When accessing the same files via the mobile browser (in my case Firefox) playback is possible. H.264 and H.265 payback doesn’t have any issues.
Since the thread seems to have gotten hijacked by a few other issues, I wanted to pull it back on track for a moment.
You’ve provided a workaround to the original issue. Will this make it into an official build at some point, or was it more an experiment to see where the problem lies?
There was a new Samsung update yesterday, I was hoping it would solve the issue… No luck.
I’ve installed Emby, quite the same product, cast is working perfectly. Until Samsung or Plex solve this issue…
