Plex Android client one time activation

Hello,

I purchased the one time activation of the Plex Android client and I have been using it on my phone for a while. I recently purchased a tablet that I installed the Android Plex client APK onto and can connect to my Plex media server but it is requiring activation.

I originally purchased the one time license through Google Play Store on my phone but my tablet does not have Google Play services on it and cannot verify the original purchase using Google Play. I see you have an online article at:

Unlocking or Activating Plex for Android
https://support.plex.tv/articles/203868088-unlocking-or-activating-plex-for-android/

But the client does not give me an opportunity to click on: “If you already purchased this app, tap here to restore your purchase” option. It now automatically forwards me to a subscription purchase. The article goes on to say:

“A pre-formatted email will open up. Verify the information (correcting it if necessary) and send the email.
Verification on our side is usually very quick, but in some cases it may take a while. Please be patient and we’ll assist you as quickly as possible!”

So how do I go on to activate the Plex Android client on this tablet?

Can you help with this matter?

Thank you!

The „new-experience clients“ no longer require the activation. If you installed the version from the play store, this should apply to you (app version 2025.x.x or 2026.x.x instead of 10.x).

So Long, Mobile Unlock Fee

Our Android and iOS mobile apps previously required a one-time activation fee or Plex Pass to remove the one-minute playback limitation when streaming content from a Plex Media Server. As part of these changes, there will no longer be any such one-minute playback limitation. Playing content on a local network will be free in the new mobile apps. These changes will go into effect when the new mobile Plex experience exits the preview period and launches publicly.

Additonal to that: if the tablet still uses the old style mobile app, it can only be unlocked by the app store where the unlock was originally bought. It cannot be transferred to other app stores.

Thank you both for the reply and information.

I guess I’m running the old version on the tablet. I’ll try updating it to latest and see what happens.

Installing latest build did the trick. Thanks again for the assistance.
