Plex app bugs

Hey, not sure if I picked the right place, just wanted to leave a feedback about Plex app bugs.

In overall I was very excited to find Plex, it looks almost perfect.

But the desktop Plex app has some critical bugs to me which I wanted to point out.

I don’t care about online media sources at all and I would prefer Plex only using my local audio files metadata which it doesn’t apparently. For example, in the local library, I have many artists named “Steve Roach & other artist name here” but they all get displayed as “Steve Roach & Michal Stearns” for a reason (picking just one of them for everything, even for “Steve Roach”). But it’s impossible to guess which. Looks like a bug indeed.

Plex seems to ignore my local folder.jpg/png files and downloads covers from the Internet, and they’re mostly wrong. I have an artist with 20-ish albums and all albums have the same (and wrong!) cover. I would prefer to have a setting to completely disable network metadata fetching or at least prefer local tags and cover images. Is it possible?

Plex doesn’t seem to refresh its db when a new content is added to my local music library, I need to ask it explicitly. Is this not implemented yet?

Not sure it’s related but since I installed it (and the server) my coreaudiod process takes 10% all the time.

Other than that I like it very much, but those things are no-go for me in terms of purchasing.

Make sure your Plex server is configured to ‘prefer local metadata’ (it’s more than just one checkbox). This is only recommended if your embedded tags are very accurate:

For the second issue, make sure this option is enabled:

Thanks, trying that. For now I’m getting “Server settings are unavailable.” when I try reaching them either from the app or from the server localhost site.

Still seeing this in the search

instead of

(and my local tags are 100% perfect).
And in the library it looks like this:

Trying a full rescan, but it was set to prefer local metadata already before.

Unfortunately, one of Plex’s major failings is albums with multiple artists. That is at least part of the problem here. There’s a feature request (yes, it’s several years old). You may want to add your vote.

You might try doing the Plex Dance on one of the albums that is being mis-attributed to see if it corrects itself (the Plex Dance is a workaround for a serious problem that was so pervasive that it was given a name. They’ve eliminated the need for it in nearly all situations for music, but it’s still necessary in a couple of instances).

note: The Plex Dance involves removing the album from Plex and re-adding it. If the album or any tracks are included in playlists or collections, they will be removed from them.

Thanks. Tried that - it seems it just doesn’t work correctly in those naming scenarios, getting a lot of duplicates.

To go any deeper I’d probably need to see screenshots of the embedded tags, as well as the folder/filenames for one of the albums.
