Plex app constantly shuts down when idle

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834

Hi! I’ve been using Plex for a long time and I’ve had multiple issues over the years but this particular one has intensified since the launch of the new app.

Context: I’m mostly consuming Plex by casting media to a Chromecast Ultra from my Android Phone (Google Pixel 9 Pro, currently running Android 16 that was recently released).

Issue:
The Plex app will terminate itself / shut down when it has been left idle for a few minutes. It happens between 2-3 times during a 45 minute episode to give you an idea of the frequency.

This usually happens when casting is ongoing and I back out of the app to the home screen (or do other stuff like browse the web, open social media apps etc) and then come back to Plex. Sometimes I lock the screen inbetween as well.

When opening the app again after this procedure, the Plex boot animation will show once again before presenting the home screen, and the Chromecast connection is terminated so I’ll have to reconnect it to reenable remote functionality such as play/pause and skipping back/forth (playback is still going on the TV though).

The app has been excluded from battery management, and other apps like YouTube etc doesn’t disconnect. Instead they work exactly the way they should.

Environment:
I have an Asus ZenWifi AX router and I have enabled multicast, disabled airtime fairness etc but nothing helps.

Another thing that annoys me is that the Plex screen will remain on the Chromecast Ultra / TV when you disconnect casting from the Plex app on the phone. It will eventually time out, but a disconnect should send the Chromecast back to the Google slide show.
