Plex app crashes in a loop on Synology

Server Version#: v.1.40.4.8679-424562606
Player Version#: Version 4.134.2

Hi guys,
After updating to the latest Plex version by manually installing the package, my Plex server is manually stopped for one second after running it, no matter what I do.

I already tried uninstalling it and installing it as a new claim token, but nothing seems to work. I also tried installing the version available through the package installer, same problem.
Nothing else changed in my setup and it was working fine till last night.

I would be extremely thankful for any help here, feeling utterly stuck after trying everything I could find in the forum.

Thanks
Davide

Is this a RAID volume or single disk?

Hi ChuckPa,
it’s a RAID volume, 2 drives - checking on the hardware monitor everything is green and functioning aside from Plex crashing in a loop.

thank you

When’s the last volume scrub?

These are internal HDD volumes?

Internal, last scrub on Sunday from the default setup task.
I’ll try a wipe-clean installation of the Plex server, old school solution to the rescue

Here’s an alternative.

  1. Rename AppData → AppData.old
  2. Now uninstall (keep) – reinstall
  3. It’ll create fresh on the side

You’ll be able to confirm what’s happening.

I’ve had Synology miss drives failing (bad spots)

Hi ChuckPA,
synology asked me to rename my media folder to plex, wipe the install, and start from scratch. It seems to be working again now, oddly enough. They are running some checks on the NAS as well.

May I ask you, in order to update the server, the best procedure is to download the latest version from plex.com and manually install it, or would you recommend docker instead?

I’m asking since the problem seems to have occurred while updating the PMS.

thanks for your amazing support.
Davide

We only used docker in the very earliest of days with 4K transcode tone mapping.

Now, with all the libraries native to the package, we don’t need to use the docker image (which was actually the Ubuntu package).

I use Docker when no native package is available that does the job.
Now that we’re native, we don’t need Docker.

Manual install is the current method.
We’re working with Synology and seem to be resolving why they’ve not been updating our package in Package Center.

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers: we’ll be updating normally again there shortly and all will FINALLY return to normal

wonderful. thank you so so much!
