Plex Media Server suddenly stopped working on Synology Ds920+ - Help please!

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309 also tried latest 1.22.1.4228 version (same issues occur)
Player Version#:

Plex server has been working fine. Yesterday I went to access the server remotely via plex.tv and it wouldn’t let me access it. Today when I access my Synology 920+ NAS and click on the server it goes straight to a blank web page/page error and doesn’t even appear to try to load the usual server page. I get the error ’ This page isn’t working (my NAS IP address) didn’t send any data…

I have the Logs.zip attached here: Logs.zip - Google Drive as I couldn’t attach the zip to this post, oddly.

Suddenly having this same issue. Have never seen this until this last update. Multiple times a day now the PLEX package just stops. I made no changes at all just the update. You get anywhere on this?

Same sudden dead PMS on Shield TV Pro.
Was working fine last night. There haven’t been any new PMS updates that I’ve installed between last night and today finding it dead. Restarting hasn’t help, logs not offering any clues (pasted in another thread already).

If 1.22.1.4288 gives grief, roll back to 4163.

If you don’t have it, Please let me know the model needed and I’ll grab the file.

Having the exact same issues here, all running fine until a couple of days ago and now I’m getting random stops of the server. Have uninstalled Plex from my NAS, cleared out the library and totally rebuilt it and still getting the same issues.

The server seems to work fine for a while if accessed via a web browser but then when I try and access via the android app on either my Shield or phone I get a crash.

Incredibly frustrating as I’ve lost all the library plays etc, potentially for nothing. Will reinstall the version of the server on the synology package center and see how I get on.

Is there a way to download old version from the Plex website? I can’t seem to find it. I’d be interested in the Synology Intel 64-bit (DSM 6 and newer) version for my DS920+

@SimpleStevie

Engineering just released two HotFix’s to the beta channel which fix a bunch of these.

  1. One of the hubs was crashing when accessed by Plex/Web or a mobile app.
  2. The other fix was a regression where Collections couldn’t be deleted.

Would you like older or like to give current PlexPass beta a try ?

I’ll give the beta a go

I am having the same issue on my Synology DS916+ and my unRAID. Both have been updated with the latest version (April 1) of the firmware, I still cannot access Plex from either Synology or unRAID (they are two different movie databases). Was there some other fix that I could try downloading?

@ggrw1011

Open the Plex share, navigate down into Library until you see Logs.

Right-click Logs and Compress to Logs.zip

Attach it please.

Hi Chuck
I’m having a similar issue (please let me know if I should start a new thread). Recently loaded Plex server on 920+, was working fine yesterday. Today, Plex Server stops running as soon as it scans my library after booting up a client.
Log files are attached.

You made a VERY fatal mistake: You probably, not knowingly, followed the instructions of one of those Youtube “Expert” Idiots. WRONG.

  1. You ignored the warnings I put in the Plex share about not placing media there.
  2. You then compounded the problem by incorrectly telling Plex where to scan for media (wrong folder)

Plex is trying to monitor and scan itself. It will blow up every time (Infinite loop).

  1. Make new shared folders for your media
  2. Move all media out of the Plex shared folder
  3. Edit your library definitions to point there.
  4. Restart Plex

You are crazy fast my friend. Thank you!
So I should not have a “movies” folder in the PLEX directory? I had assumed (wrongly) that we weren’t allowed to put any files on the PLEX root folder.

Crazy? Absolutely!

While you TECHNICALLY can, I decided long ago to make the basic rule

It is 100% TRUE, you cannot put anything below “Application Support”.
Rather than having the complex rules, I went with the simple – NO!

“NOTHING in the Plex Share” because accidents are fatal.

We all mess up and guess what ? You got caught :stuck_out_tongue:

Knowing how DSM 7 is going to happen and how I was forced to implement PMS on DSM 7, I urge – Bite the bullet now and be safe.

When I perform DSM 6 → DSM 7 migration, the contents of the Plex share get moved. I get one shot at accessing the Plex shared folder so I get everything I can find.

This means you’d lose access to your media which would NOT be a pretty situation. (I had no choice in this – sorrry)

Thank you again. One more super quick question! How can I edit my library definitions if the server keeps crashing in it’s loop. Is there a place I can do this without having to go into the client?

Can you start the server long enough to get into

Settings - Server - Library

and turn off ALL the automatic scanning

then

SAVE the changes ?

Doing this should:

  1. Let you move the media
  2. Edit the library section definition

I’ll try that. It gives me about 30 seconds before it stops.

Let me know if it doesn’t and we’ll do what we can

Sometimes, we just need to :bomb: it and start again. :crossed_fingers:

Hey. It was tricky and took me about a half dozen times but I was able to stop the library auto-sync. So at least the server no longer crashes! Now I can spend the next foreseeable future moving my movie library out of the Movies folder under plex.
Thank you again for all of your help.

Good. Glad you got it.

When you are done moving the media, it might make better sense (time wise), to delete the existing library sections then

  1. Hover the mouse over Libraries
  2. Expose the ellipsis
  3. Manage Server
  4. Empty Trash
  5. Clean Bundles
  6. Optimize Database

This cleans out all the old locations.

Now start quasi-fresh., with automatic scanning and library functions enabled again.
